The Value of Leadership

The Value of Leadership
1st Reading: Is. 55: 1 - 3             2nd Reading: Rom. 8: 35, 37 - 39             Gospel: Mt. 14: 13 – 21

After hearing about what happened to John, Jesus got into a boat and went to a lonely place to contemplate and pray. But soon the people got a word on where he is so they crowded up to him. When Jesus saw this, He was deeply moved. Because of this He began healing their sick and also taught them about the Kingdom of God. Then afternoon came and they are still in the wilderness. The crowd still don’t want to leave him. The problem is, it is already late in the afternoon and he crowd are too far from the villages to buy food the apostles are already worried about what they are going to feed the crowd. The apostles then advised Jesus to send them home to eat. But then Jesus said, they need not go anywhere. Then they found a boy holding five loaves of bread and two fish. Then Jesus gave instructions to put the bread and the fish in front of him so that he can bless it. He then look up in the sky and started to tear the bread and fish into tiny pieces. He told the apostles to distribute the pieces of bread and fish to the people. Then after this all were filled and the apostles still have two baskets of food that was left. Five thousand men were filled that day not counting the women and children.
In this gospel, we can clearly see Jesus as our provider. He never brings us down in times of trouble. Instead, He goes to us and helps us to find solutions to solve our problems. Another side of this gospel shows the Kingly mission of Jesus. He took full responsibility, H gave instructions. And He solved the problem regarding to his people. This is the value of being a leader and Jesus made an example of it.
As a son of God and as a Catholic, I should also follow the ways of Jesus. We all have to become leaders so that we can look after those who can’t look for themselves so that we may help them to rise up and be like us. We must provide each other of what we need and give away anything in excess so that all will benefit.
